The history of mountain architecture spans millennia in the beauty of mountainous landscapes. The principles and practices inherent in mountain architecture contribute significantly to sustainable development concerning local environments, cultures, resources, and technology. The heritage of mountain architecture holds immense significance in values, lifestyles, traditional knowledge, sustainability, energy efficiency, and resiliency towards climate. Preserving and learning from the heritage of mountain architecture helps safeguard cultural identities and provides valuable insights into sustainable practices that can be applied to combat the challenges posed by the climate in various regions worldwide.
Modernity has brought about a specific transformation, surprisingly itself upon traditional landscapes. In many cases, patterns have had a decisive influence on transformations imposed by modernity. It is necessary to provide new interpretations of reality that also consider history. Thus, the conference highlights the importance of mountain architecture, reflecting its values, culture, social milieu, lifestyle, resiliency, vulnerability, local knowledge, technology, and settlement patterns along the transformation. This conference on mountain architecture presupposes a close dialogue with nature.
This conference on “Mountain Architecture and Sustainable Development: Coalescence of Culture, Climate and Technology” aims to bring together academicians, professionals, researchers, and local people working in this field to share their experiences and original research findings, which will ultimately help to shape our future towns and villages.
Submitted extended abstracts will be reviewed by the conference’s scientific committee for approval. The conference participants will get an opportunity to establish research relations and collaboration. We invite you to join us at the conference, which will be held in mid-May 2024 on the premises of Kathmandu University.
